Very few businesses are encouraging their employees to travel to work by bicycle, despite the renewed emphasis on environmental protection according to new research from YouGov and MWB Business Exchange.
Only 11% of UK businesses provide secure bike areas for their workers and only a third (29%) are reported as providing showering facilities.
Cycling is a very viable travel to work alternative for short journeys (up to 3 miles) in urban or semi-urban situations. All businesses, who are situated in an environment suitable for cycling should be further encouraged to provide the appropriate facilities. However, targeting is key because if cycling is not a feasible approach for a particular business location, money should be focused on other, more appropriate transport solutions.
