RAC Foundation Director Edmund King writes: ” Last week in Cape Town I had the honour to meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu at a conference taking the Make Roads Safe campaign to Africa and beyond. The atmosphere in the Convention Centre changed instantly as the Archbishop entered cap and stick in hand. Immediately he rushed over to the twenty Township school children to “high five” them.“When I come back in ten years time, what will you be?,” he asks the children individually. “A policeman, my…”…”A nurse, wonderful”.
He brought a special warmth and aura to the proceedings. He then gave a wonderful presentation which managed to link the church, anti-apartheid campaigns and road safety, which was an inspiration to all present.
He left the conference to a well-deserved standing ovation. It was a great honour for me to share the same platform as this truly great and inspirational man.
His genuine support for Make Roads Safe adds a new dimension to this growing campaign.”
